Adopt a Grandparent featured as an Allen Lane Foundation case study
We are delighted that Adopt a Grandparent has been featured on The Allen Lane Foundation’s case studies page, recognising the charity’s work to reduce loneliness and social isolation among older people living in care homes.
The Allen Lane Foundation is an independent grant-making trust, established in 1966 by Sir Allen Lane, founder of Penguin Books. It supports charitable work across the UK, with funding programmes focused on groups experiencing marginalisation and disadvantage, including older people.
Its support has made a real difference to Adopt a Grandparent.
As a small national charity, core funding is one of the most valuable forms of support we can receive. It helps us do the work that often sits behind the scenes: safeguarding, volunteer matching, care home support, platform costs, outreach, administration and the day-to-day coordination needed to keep regular companionship running safely and well.
For the older people and volunteers involved, the result is simple: a familiar person to speak to, a conversation to look forward to, and a friendship that can grow over time.
That is what makes funding from organisations such as The Allen Lane Foundation so important. It gives small charities like ours the stability to keep building carefully, reach more care homes and support more older people who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation.
We are hugely grateful to The Allen Lane Foundation for backing our work and for sharing Adopt a Grandparent as one of its case studies.
We would also be very pleased to hear from other foundations, grant-makers and corporate giving programmes whose priorities align with our aim to reduce social isolation among older people.
If you are looking to support a small national charity with a practical, human and growing programme, we would be delighted to talk.
