From Duke of Edinburgh to Volunteer of the Year: Adopt a Grandparent Charity Awards 2026

Daniel Dominick was just 13 when he joined Adopt a Grandparent.

More than three and a half years later, he is still volunteering with us and is now our longest-standing active volunteer.

Daniel originally joined in January 2023 as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. At the time, he told us he had considered several volunteering opportunities, but AAG stood out because of his own relationship with his grandparents.

He wrote: “I am very family oriented and live abroad from half of my grandparents, so don’t get to see them as much as I’d like to.”

What began as a Duke of Edinburgh volunteering placement became a commitment that has continued well beyond the award itself.

Over the years, Daniel has shown patience, reliability and a genuine interest in building friendships across generations.

We are incredibly proud to name him our Volunteer of the Year.

Congratulations, Daniel, and thank you for giving your time so consistently over the past three and a half years.

Volunteer of the Year was sponsored by Arc.
