Adopt a Grandparent raises over £20k through beneficiary partnership with Championing Social Care

Adopt a Grandparent has raised over £20,000 through its beneficiary partnership with Championing Social Care, a leading organisation in the social care sector.

Over 100 people hung individual pledges of support on a Christmas Wishtree during the lunch event, with attendees embracing the spirit of giving with festive wishes to end loneliness.

The Wishtree itself was a highlight for all, showcasing the generosity of those present and providing a glittering reminder of the purpose of the gathering.

A Christmas Lunch With a Difference

Championing Social Care recently announced that the organisation had raised £23,719 from its ‘Christmas Lunch’ event for Adopt a Grandparent – helping the latter to take a further step towards ending isolation amongst the older population.

The annual celebration brings together industry leaders, partners, and supporters to reflect upon the year's accomplishments and to express gratitude to all those who have contributed to its mission.

The money will be instrumental in helping Adopt a Grandparent grow its volunteers, develop its technology further, and expand its operations.

The Christmas Lunch also provided an occasion for the initiative to highlight its growth, particularly in care home group sign-ups and fundraising efforts since its inception.

Adopt a Grandparent’s Global Presence

Those in attendance were able to gain a greater insight into Adopt a Grandparent’s global outreach, showcasing the far-reaching impact of encouraging intergenerational connections and the significance of these relationships in care homes worldwide.

The initiative works to pair older care home residents with volunteers worldwide to combat loneliness and isolation. What began as a project based out of one Surrey care home group now works with care homes across the UK – with almost 100,000 volunteers signed up to ‘adopt’.

Adopt a Grandparent has also recently expanded into Scotland, through its new partnership with Edinburgh Napier University and a new group of Scottish dementia care homes.

Positive Feedback from Championing Social Care

Mandip Bhogal, Chair of the Christmas Lunch and an organising committee member of Championing Social Care, said:

“We are thrilled that so many people from across the care sector came together to support this event. It truly reflected the Christmas spirit of joy, celebration and giving. I am immensely grateful to our partners whose support has been integral to its success. And I am delighted that we are able to support Adopt a Grandparent with their vital work. Together, we are collectively shaping a world where empathy, care, and respect resonate as guiding principles, inspiring others to follow suit.”.
