Care Shop becomes Gold Sponsor of Adopt a Grandparent to help tackle loneliness in care homes

Partnership will fund companionship for older people, create employee volunteering opportunities and showcase Adopt a Grandparent at Care Shop’s Annual Conference in Liverpool

Care Shop has become a new Gold Sponsor of Adopt a Grandparent, supporting our work tackling loneliness among older people living in care homes.

The partnership will help fund regular, one-to-one video calls between care home residents and carefully matched volunteers, creating meaningful companionship rooted in shared interests, culture or language.

As part of the sponsorship, Care Shop employees will also have the opportunity to volunteer with Adopt a Grandparent, giving their time to build real relationships with older people through the charity’s safeguarded video call programme.

Adopt a Grandparent will also be showcased at Care Shop’s Annual Conference in Liverpool on 9th July, helping raise awareness of the charity’s mission among care sector professionals. Later this year, the partnership will also see Care Shop sponsor a dedicated Adopt a Grandparent event bringing together the charity’s sponsors, ambassadors and supporters, with further details to be announced in due course.

The partnership brings together two organisations with a shared belief: that care is not only about practical support, but about helping people feel seen, heard and valued.

Care Shop works closely with care homes across the UK, supporting teams with dependable products, specialist solutions and thoughtful advice. Its sponsorship of Adopt a Grandparent reflects its wider commitment to standing alongside care teams and improving everyday life for residents.

David Annand, Head of Operations and Fundraising at Adopt a Grandparent, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Care Shop for becoming a Gold Sponsor of Adopt a Grandparent. This is a partnership with real heart behind it.

“Care Shop understands the care sector and the extraordinary work care teams do every day. Their support will help us build on that care by creating more regular, one-to-one companionship for residents who may otherwise feel isolated.

“What makes this partnership especially powerful is that it goes beyond funding. Care Shop employees will have the opportunity to volunteer with us, meaning they can become part of the relationships their sponsorship is helping to create.

“Every call matters. Every familiar voice matters. With Care Shop’s support, we can reach more older people and help make sure they feel remembered, valued and connected.”

A spokesperson for Care Shop said:

“At Care Shop, care homes are always our starting point. We understand the pace, pressure and pride that comes with caring well, and we see the dedication of care teams every day.

“Supporting Adopt a Grandparent reflects something we deeply believe in: that meaningful human connection is just as important as practical care. Everyone deserves to feel seen, heard and valued, no matter their age or stage of life.

“This partnership is about helping create moments of warmth, conversation and belonging that truly matter. We are proud to support Adopt a Grandparent and look forward to sharing its work with our teams and wider care community.”

Care Shop’s Gold Sponsorship will support the continued growth of the programme, helping more care home residents experience the reassurance of a familiar voice and a relationship that is theirs.
